intercounty Connector
The Undeland Management team provided a range of outreach capabilities to the Maryland State Highway Administration/Transportation Authority’s Intercounty Connector project, a long-planned yet long-controversial 18-mile highway in suburban Maryland.
We provided counsel on media relations, providing direction on the creation of media events to profile the ICC’s innovative environmental initiatives. Our team also provided web design, multimedia content development, production of a quarterly newsletter, and the creation of issue-specific fact sheets and other project materials.
Among our key successes were securing a Washington Post magazine cover story profiling SHA Project Manager Melinda Peters and writing/placing an op-ed on the project’s environmental initiatives, also in the Washington Post.
We also oversaw creating the theme and handling the logistics of the ICC’s opening ceremony. Specifically, we worked with contacts at General Motors to secure the just-introduced Chevy Volt to deliver Governor Martin O’Malley and U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood to the event – the inaugural trip on America’s greenest highway driven by the nation’s cleanest vehicle.
